Pressure makes UU rethink

Friends of Crummock have been at the heart of a new wave of consultation with the engineers at United Utilities as they rethink their plans for the lake. Supported by over 300 written objections, our campaign highlighted environmental and social consequences of the original proposal and the flawed history on which it was based.

Our campaign organisers met with key members of the UU project team to discuss alternative options for the project. You can read their statement here.

The lengthy meeting discussed their two new proposals:

  • a renaturalised outflow that would retain the water at its historical height along the lines of the assisted natural recovery project

  • to keep a modified and updated weir.

Our team will continue to work with the United Utilities project team throughout the consultation period ensuring that we are representing your concerns and that any scheme meets out five tests that will ensure the best outcome for the landscape, wildlife and community.

Just a few of the Friends who have supported our Campaign.
