Cancelled! UU preferred option revealed Nov 25th
Update 24th November: UU have cancelled their scheduled consultation meetings pending further work on the scheme options.
No further news is expected until January.
November could prove to be a pivotal month for Crummock as United Utilities decide which weir decommissioning option to take forward to planning in the New Year. The original proposals submitted in April were suspended in July following concerns over the integrity of the data submitted and over 300 letters of objection submitted by the public, consultee bodies such as Friends of the Lake District and the Open Spaces Society, the three immediate landowners of the lakeshore and even the Environment Agency.
The summer has been busy with our Friends holding meetings with UU, the affected landowners and local politicians to express our concern about the project and guide on the revised options. We responded to the three proposed options in September.
The Project Steering Group (PSG) responsible for the project meet this week to decide which of the three options to resubmit to the planning department in the New Year. Public Consultation of the preferred options begins on 25th November when key members of Friends of Crummock meet the three principal members of the PSG to hear their plans. We will question the project engineers and advisors and representatives of the Environment Agency and Natural England and report our findings on the revised plans shortly afterwards. Watch this space!
