Otters spotted at Weir
Local wildlife photographers John and Rosamund Macfarlane have captured a brilliant image of otters just below the weir at Crummock. The video clearly shows the weir and bridge and the diversity of animals enjoying the tranquillity of the Cocker at night. Evidence of their holt has yet to be confirmed. Daily Crummock swimmer Nicky Cockburn says she sees the otters out in the Lake.
This is an area that would be devasted by the ‘renaturalisation’ proposals of United Utilities, Natural England and Environment Agency to remove the weir and reshape the outflow of the Cocker below the outlet.
Weir removal in progress at another site. How will our otters cope
